Back in February 2016 we were contacted by Steven Smith of Rave & Ride, an indoor cycling company that combines indoor cycling exercise classes with the art of techno music creating an extremely fun and unique way of keeping fit! Imagine cycling in the dark with techno music and disco lights with live DJ’s alongside your instructor – there’s nothing more inspiring and invigorating when it comes to exercising like this!
Steven was organising a charity event of enormous magnitude – big enough to warrant a Double Guinness World Record™ Attempt – a group of hundreds of indoor cycling bikes in one location to raise money for his selected charity Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). His double challenge was to produce the most mechanical energy by pedalling on static bicycles in one hour and to raise the largest amount of money possible in 8 hours whilst static cycling.
Branded Clothing as a Souvenir
Having lost his mother to the disease, this event was extremely important for Steven and he wanted to “get it right”. One of the most important elements to the whole project was the souvenir tops that were awarded to people who took part or were involved in the event. “I’ve been to lots of charity events and been given lots of free t-shirts. I want this to be a top that people are proud to wear and keep forever.”
As this was an exercise event we decided that a ‘tech’ style t-shirt would be the best solution as these tops have moisture wicking and anti-bacterial properties meaning the tops draw moisture away from the body when working out. Steve also wanted the tops to look ‘mean’ – “I want to feel like Rambo when I train” was his comment! We went through a number of design changes to get the look just right. It was also very important that the fit was perfect – “Most cyclists have a smaller frame and like their tops to hug them when they train – not like most of the t-shirts you get that have no shape and stretch really easily”
After contemplating a screen printing option we decided that due to the number of sponsors and colours on the top along with the number of positions that needed printing we opted for a complete 100% bespoke solution where each top was individually sublimation printed and stitched together. The bespoke clothing option meant we could design the top exactly how we wanted, which allowed us to create the desired ‘mean looking’ tops.
